Recently we all saw Hyderabad becoming the
number one choice for one of the biggest brands in the world that offer
furniture for consumers.
So now the big question is...will the rental
market survive? Furniture on rental is a fairly popular concept that people are
enjoying in India nowadays especially in big cities like Hyderabad.
When it comes to Ikea’s Launch in Hyderabad, we
all witnessed a legendary day when thousands of people came together to show
their passion for furniture and home decor.
The iconic, the most epic, and one of the best
stores all around the world had finally led their entry into the biggest
consumer market of the world - India!
Comprising of over 1.3 billion people, there is
no wonder that a big furniture brand would not want to open their chains in the
land of the people who love to decorate and re-decorate their spaces whenever
they can get a chance.
Just to give a glimpse of the madness that went
down at Ikea let’s just say that at 4pm on day one (Aug. 09) the store was
already packed.
Outside, there was a huge queue of shoppers who
had to wait for over an hour or more.
Those who did make it inside didn’t appear in a
mood to leave any time soon. Most potential shoppers were just exploring:
running their hands on the sofa sets, knocking on wooden tables, sinking
themselves into mattresses, and tugging at price tags. Ideally what one would do at an Ikea store
globally, the place was a literal heaven for shoppers and window-shoppers
equally.
We all know that the big businesses have
flourished every now and then in a big market like India whether be it in food
industry, sharing space industry, fashion industry and now we have the
furniture industry as well.
But what will happen to the normal local
businesses? The ones who stand for the “Made in India”, the online and offline
furniture industry, both have been shaken up with the entry of Ikea in India.
Despite all that, the one market that will stay
intact is the Online furniture rental market, with plenty of options to pick
from the comfort of your home who would want to step out?
The young adults who are working professionals
barely have time to go out and look for the furniture and appliances they want
to get for themselves and that is the reason the Online Furniture Rental
Industry exists.
Plenty of well-known players like Rentomojo,
Furlenco, Rentickle, Urban Ladder and etc. are expanding their functions and
catalogues. India already has its own Ikea that’s present online in form of
these brands.
After talking about the whole Ikea hype, let’s
talk about the not so fancy facts about it-
For an instance, Ikea is marketed with a DIY
image - you buy your furniture, you go home and assemble everything on your
OWN. (Maybe they can consider changing that for the Indian market but it’s not
sure yet)
Secondly, the furniture provided is only on
purchase value and not available for renting. So it’s only beneficial for
someone who is sure that he or she aren’t switching places anytime soon.
There will always be pros and cons about any new
brand that comes into the market but it’s up to the consumers what they want to
pick from themselves.
So when it comes to Online furniture rentals
like Rentomojo, Furlenco, Rentickle etc. - these brands already provide quality
furniture and appliances while considering the budget of a common man of India.Apart from providing the premium furniture, the
companies also provide the additional services without any additional cost such
as free relocation, Fast and Free Delivery, Free maintenance and Easy refunds.
